PolitiÄka sociologija u politoloĆĄkim Äasopisima u Hrvatskoj
Autor u Älanku daje prikaz politiÄke sociologije kao (pod)discipline suvremene
politiÄke znanosti, s posebnim osvrtom na Hrvatsku. Rad se sastoji od tri dijela.
U prvome autor predstavlja predmet, metodu i razvoj suvremene politiÄke sociologije,
stavljajuÄi poseban naglasak na eklektiÄnu prirodu (pod)discipline.
Drugi dio rada posveÄen je bibliometrijskoj analizi triju Äasopisa relevantnih za
politologiju: PolitiÄka misao, Anali Hrvatskog politoloĆĄkog druĆĄtva i Suvremene
teme s obzirom na predmet politiÄke sociologije. Rezultati analize pokazuju
(IN ENGLISH: The author gives an overview of political sociology as a (sub)discipline of
modern political science, with special reference to Croatia. The paper consists
of three parts. In the first part the method and the development of modern political
sociology is given by putting special emphasis on the eclectic nature of
the (sub)discipline. The second part is dedicated to the bibliometric analysis
with respect to the subject matter of political sociology of three journals relevant
to political science in Croatia, namely PolitiÄka misao, Anali Hrvatskog
politoloĆĄkog druĆĄtva and Suvremene teme. The analysis results show an
extremely small number of papers in the field of political sociology in all
three journals, as well as the uneven distribution of topics within the subject
of political sociology. The third and final part of the paper compares Croatian
experiences in the field of political sociology with international trends and
other political science (sub)disciplines. The author concludes that the Croatian
political sociology is underdeveloped and inconsistent with the topics of
political sociologies in other countries.
Economic and social studies of scientific research: nature and origins
Interest in the role that science and scientific research play in economics and the other social sciences has exploded in the last fifty years. This attention undoubtedly reflects the increased importance that scientific research is contributing more and more to employment and economic growth, as well as the comparative advantage of countries. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the nature and origins of the studies which focus scientific research and organization (such as economics of science, sociology of science, managerial economics of research organizations, political economy of science, etc.). The paper shows as the foundations of this discipline are the works of Huxley, Bernal, Bush, Peirce, Polanyi, and Freedman and the success of the Manhattan and Rand projects (1930s-1950s) that symbolised the power of big science projects involving governments, scientists, industrialists and universities.Science, Scientific research, Sociology of science, Social studies of science, History of science, Research policy, Research laboratory, Research management

Absolute monarchy in France
An original scholarly interpretation of the nature of the French monarchy in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. It argues that rather than seeing this monarchy as centralised and administrative, we should see it as a state formation replete with tensions and contradictions. Astute political management, patronage and clientage focused on the court as the centre of the political system, were all essential for the survival of the regime. The chapter thus takes issue with current interpretations in historical sociology, political science and history. The interpretation draws on wide secondary sources and the author's long archival acquaintance with the regime. 16,000 words
How Politically Diverse Are the Social Sciences and Humanities? Survey Evidence from Six Fields
In Spring 2003, a large-scale survey of American academics was conducted using academic association membership lists from six fields: Anthropology, Economics, History, Philosophy (political and legal), Political Science, and Sociology. This paper focuses on one question: To which political party have the candidates youâve voted for in the past ten years mostly belonged? The question was answered by 96.4 percent of academic respondents. The results show that the faculty is heavily skewed towards voting Democratic. The most lopsided fields surveyed are Anthropology with a D to R ratio of 30.2 to 1, and Sociology with 28.0 to 1. The least lopsided is Economics with 3.0 to 1. After Economics, the least lopsided is Political Science with 6.7 to 1. The average of the six ratios by field is about 15 to 1. Our analysis and related research suggest that for the the social sciences and humanities overall, a âone-big-poolâ ratio of 7 to 1 is a safe lower-bound estimate, and 8 to 1 or 9 to 1 are reasonable point estimates. Thus, the social sciences and humanities are dominated by Democrats. There is little ideological diversity. We discuss Stephen Balchâs âproperty rightsâ proposal to help remedy the situation.academia; diversity; Democratic; Republican; voting; political parties

Introduction: preliminary reflections on the legacy of Pierre Bourdieu
Book synopsis: Pierre Bourdieu is widely regarded as one of the most influential sociologists of his generation, and yet the reception of his work in different cultural contexts and academic disciplines has been varied and uneven. This volume maps out the legacy of Pierre Bourdieu in contemporary social and political thought from the standpoint of classical European sociology and from the broader perspective of transatlantic social science. It brings together contributions from prominent scholars in the field, providing a range of perspectives on the continuing relevance of Bourdieuâs oeuvre to substantive problems in social and political analysis
Basic concepts in social sciences III
In this paper the set of concepts considered to be basic to the fields of Economics, Organization Theory, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology is completed. The set of 55 basic concepts in the first two papers on basic concepts was mainly determined by considering concepts in relation to social atoms. The concepts that play a role in n-networks form the majority of the concepts added in this paper
